There are five massive patches of garbage in the ocean: the Indian Ocean Gyre, the South Atlantic Gyre, the North Pacific Gyre, the South Pacific Gyre, and the North Atlantic Gyre. The Great Pacific garbage patch is the largest of these. The garbage patch is estimated to be around twice the size of Texas. It is estimate that in the Great Pacific garbage patch alone there are 1.8 trillion pieces of garabage; but this number is probably much higher now.
70 percent of ocean pollution is not recoverable since it has already sunk too deep down in the water.
Pollution in the ocean is often mistaken as food for animals. A example of pollution ingested commonly is that turtles mistake plastic bags as jellyfish. Additionally, is is estimated that at least 267 species are affected from plastic pollution.
